Connecting with the Macintosh
using the Internet Setup Assistant and System 8

These instructions are for users of a System 8 Macintosh. The examples use an iMac - the pictures will be different, but the steps are the same for other kinds of Macintosh. If you are unsure of your System version, select "About This Macintosh" from your Apple menu.

These instructions only apply if you are using myDurango.net for both your e-mail address and your dial-up service provider and you are connecting to the internet via a modem installed in your computer. If you are using a different dial-up service, please contact them for instructions. If you are connecting to the internet via a local area network (LAN), please contact your LAN administrator for instructions.

Before you begin, be sure you know your username and password. If you have just signed up with us, this information was provided by you to us on your signup form.

  1. Locate the 'Assistants' folder on your hard drive, open it, and double-click on the Internet Setup Assistant icon.

    Internet Setup Assistant

  2. Welcome: click the 'Yes' button to begin the setup.

  3. Internet Account: click the 'Yes' button if you already have signed up for an account with myDurango.net. Otherwise click no to cancel and contact us to create one.

  4. Introduction: click the right arrow button to continue.

  5. Configuration name and connection type: type myDurango.net as the name of the configuration. If you will be connecting with your modem, leave the Modem selection. If you are connecting through a local area network, contact your network administrator for instructions. Click the right arrow button to continue.

  6. Modem Settings: choose the Modem and Port that correspond to your setup. Unless you have an older telephone connect that only uses pulse dial, leave the Tone selection. If you are using an answering service that identifies messages waiting with a distinctive dial tone, we suggest you select ignore dial tone. Click the right arrow button to continue.

  7. Configuration information: Enter 375-1258 as the phone number for this configuration. The name you use with this service is <yourusername>@myDurango.net, unless you use a different username for dial-up access. Your password is the password your requested on your signup form that corresponds to this username. When you are done, click the right arrow button.

  8. PPP Connect Scripts: myDurango.net connections do not require a Connect Script. Select No and click the right arrow button to continue.

  9. IP Address: you are not assigned your own IP address. Select No and click the right arrow button to continue.

  10. Domain Name Servers: you are NOT required to enter Domain Name Server (DNS) addresses. Click the right arrow button to continue.

  11. E-mail address and password: your email address is usually <yourusername>@myDurango.net. If you have your own domain name that is hosted at myDurango.net, e.g. ourname.org, then your e-mail address can also be <yourusername>@ourname.org. Your password is the password that corresponds to this username. You can leave the ">" symbol in the last box. When you are done, click the right arrow button to continue.

  12. E-mail account and host computer: your email account is <your username>@mail.myDurango.net. This applies even if you have a domain hosted with myDurango.net - it is different from the e-mail address. The SMTP host at myDurango.net (also called the e-mail host in this dialog box) is called mail.myDurango.net. Enter these and then click the right arrow button to continue.

  13. Newsgroup Host Computer: This is sometimes called your "nntp server". Click the right arrow button to continue.

  14. Proxy Server: if you are connecting directly with a modem on your computer, you are not using a proxy server. Choose No in this window and click the right arrow button to continue.

  15. Conclusion: congratulations - you're done! Click the 'Go Ahead' button and your iMac will be ready to connect to the internet with myDurango.net!

You can now open one of your internet applications (Web browser, e-mail reader, etc.) and test your connection. If you run into any trouble, feel free to call us at 385-2500
