Configuring Windows ME for dial-up Internet service

Things you need before you get started:

Set up Dial-Up-Networking

This assumes that you already have a modem installed on your PC.

    1. Go to the Control Panel and double click on Dial-Up Networking.
    2. Double click on Make New Connection.
    3. Enter myDurango.net as the name of the computer you are dialing.
    4. Choose your modem from the Select a device list, and click on Next.
    5. Enter the dialup phone number.
    6. Click on Next, then Finish. You should now be back at the Dial-Up Networking window.
    7. Single click with your right mouse button on the myDurango.net connection icon.
    8. Select Properties from the drop down menu.
    9. The General tab should display the information you just entered.
    10. Click on the Networking tab. Make sure that the only settings that have check mark are "Enable Software Compression" and "TCP/IP". No other setting should have a check mark beside it.
      Networking
Your screen may not look exactly like this - it depends on your version of Dial-up Networking.

    11. Click on OK to save your changes and close this window.

Connect to myDurango.net

  1. You are now ready to try out your connection! Double click on the myDurango.net connection icon.
  2. Now you should see a window that says Connect To. In User name put your e-mail address - e.g. username@myDurango.net and put your password into the Password field. For security reasons, you will not see your password appear as it is typed in. You can click on Save Password if you want to.
  3. Click on Connect.
  4. You should now hear your modem dial the phone. If you don't and you get an error, then try re-starting your computer. After your modem connects and suitable protocols are established, you will get a message confirming your connection.

You are now "on the Internet." Welcome! Minimize this window (that button on the top right corner that looks like a small flat low line), and open the internet applications you wish to use (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Eudora, etc.).
